I wasnt going to post this but what with all the talk lately about HSE,accidents, injuries etc I thought I would post this about an accident I had today with my hand in the chipper

Now people with a nervous disposition may want to look away NOW!!

First pic a bit blurry because I fainted while taking it.

Third pic after my mum put some magic cream on and a plaster :001_tt1:

The whole incident happened while working on my own changing the blades. I know I know I should have had a first aider at hand fully trained in chipper maintenance but times are hard so I have had to make cut backs

Hand slipped while torquing up the bolts slicing straight into my finger and almost down to the bone:scared1: must have lost a good 3 or 4 drops of blood!

Anyway I did have a phone with a camera to hand to quickly get some snaps in there was also a first aid kit knocking about with some celox which after using 3 packets managed to stem the bleeding.

I made a quick teary eyed trip to my mums who in the flashiest of flashes had me up and fighting fit again.

Tbh I'm not sure how this will affect my tree climbing career so I am going to take it day by day and one step at a time.

A lesson to be learned by all, you never know when it could be you.

Remember lets be careful out there.

Thats a mere scratch, I cut through the end of my finger so there was only a bit holding it on, I just dried it, broke out the super glue and glued it back together.

Have no feeling in it now mind, perhaps if I had had a fully trained first aider stood beside me while I carried out such a dangerous task, things might have been different, I might have now been able to pick my nose and feel whether I managed to get that elusive bogey on the end of my finger or not

mesterh you got away with a bit of luck there... hope the finger is ok?

after a few cuts myself, (whilst tightening the torque bolts up) i always use an extention bar with the ratchet now...

dont worry i thought id broke my arm today... whilst climbing over the Aframe on the chipper.... went arse over tit :scared1: and it bloody hurt
