A pisspot little saw will do the job if its good and sharp . A 50 or 60cc mid range saw will be crap if its got a dull chain . Soooo get the best you can afford and keep it sharp ....

A good mid range saw would be:

Husqy 560xp

Echo 620

Dolmar

All around £600. I doubt that's within your budget.

Why do you need a mid range saw for small trees?

A Stihl 211 will be a good saw and pay for itself inside a week, at around the £200 mark. Don't be tempted to go for the 16" bar though.

You're welcome (in advance :) )

He's best off going for a brand new MS181 for £210- otherwise the next post will be 'help my chainsaws broke and I have no money to fix it' :001_rolleyes::laugh1:

He should get a new one with warranty. Top advice on the bar length- stick to 12", and in 1.1mm gauge if the shop will change it for free.

Ditto. By the way, what do you call a small tree? Are we talking 6" dia. or 12" dia., or a little bigger maybe?

Me personally? Up to 15" I would guess. That said I've dropped much bigger with my 211 :)
