To be fair peteB, you would say that wouldn't you?

It takes 10 minutes. Saves 50 quid, and also you know it's being done right.

Fine,I understand some people don't want or think they can perform the simplest of maintence.

Surely though, in this biz a modicum of mechanical know how is desirable?

There's a fair chance it ain't being done right in ten minutes!!!

Like I said before a service isn't just an oil change

The engine isn't the only moving part on any machine!

Reliability comes from correct operation and correct maintenance

Is it a chipper, is it a mower or another broken stump grinder who cares we'll fix it!

Really depends on the dealer also

We have one local one who are old school mechanics and can repair (not just fit), we also have another dealer who took two goes at fixing a puncture.

For a chipper I would service it myself but equally understand others who just leave it at trusted dealer and get on with other work jobs or family time

Why would you want to only change the oil and filter?

If it's due an oil change then it's due a service

Promote good practice not half job short cuts

There's no room for kwik-fit style servicing in this Industry

Most maintenance needs doing far more often than an oil and filter change, I would certainly not leave greasing of bearings that long.

It's not necessarily 'due a service if the oil is due'. That's what the hour clock is there to tell you. I appreciate that most of the stuff you see has been abused however!

I do all mine myself as it's cheap and only takes ten minutes. Clean oil is the cheapest preventative maintenance there is.

The hour clock is there to tell you how many hours work it's done!

So if it's done enough hours to require the oil change then it's done enough hours for the other remain service item to be done!!!

If your car is due a service every 10000 miles does the garage only change the oil? If a DIYer services his own car at 10000 miles does he just change the oil because it only takes 10 minutes and it doesn't matter about the rest ( that's why cars with service history hold there value longer!)

Changing the oil and filter is better than nothing being done but like a car there is a safety factor to think about and safety devices and other moving conponets which need equal maintenance as regular oil changes !
