In anticipation of a fall out with Russia would be my first guess]

Hmm, I get what you're saying Steve, but I've never known the prospect of war (in the very worst case) get in the way of commerce, despite what the powers that be would have us believe

To sustain the existing demand probably

Lends the lie (again) to Cameron's promise that the Tories would be the greenest government ever.

Peatiff has hit the nail on the head. Electricity is easily available via coal, nuclear, wind, wave and solar which is more sustainable energy than gas. Electric boilers will be the future. Nothing to do with china or Russia it's forward thinking these houses need to last 50+ years before they become outdated

You should have a look at agenda 21- the sustainable plan for the 21st century!

The heating requirements for a modern super insulated home would be minimal. I suppose insulation is the way forward , if there is enough of it just having people in there would almost keep it warm

Bob

True, I'm currently building a new workshop for her indoors. 64m2 and no heating. All of her heating requirements will come through solar gain and body heat. Timber built, but with a massive, 16 inch thick concrete slab for the floor with 8" of celotex underneath it to act as a heat synch. 8" of celotex in the walls and ceiling with a 1" service gap and 1" celotex backed plaster board to finish.

Should be toasty.

Wood will continue to be a major source of energy. Within 18 months there will be biomass micro chp for domestic installations using zero moisture content woodfuel. Its the future for wood, and the future has almost arrived.
