Macrocarpa milling - timber properties and uses

Felled one today for a client down west to mill. However I noticed radial splits in the base that corresponded with splits in the trunk felled. Are they likely to be further up as well?

haha, good luck - its a big lump! Stem is off the ground for you and metal is easy to see.

If they're a reasonable size, you might find someone on here interested in taking them. Any approximate idea on dimensions?

I guess the available sections of stem could be 15" rising to 20+"dia and 15' or so in length: educated guesses those, made from memory. At the moment the clients are making noises about retaining the bottoms of the stems and perhaps having them carved as the trees are a significant part of the local, small landscape, being on the edge of a very small cul-de-sac.

was less than 100. Found a ducks egg in an old crux about 1.5m into the wood!

This is an interesting topic, as ive just recently planked a large one with beautiful baords.

I have an opportunity perhaps for some other sections and know of a large specimen about 6ft in diameter and wonder if its worth my time doing so ?

macro is a very underrated timber in my opinion.

 

no one seems to know how to utilise it. should be good for outdoor benches and garden furniture. 

 

i would always want to see it milled but i would say that.

Hi yeah its nice timber ,like Steve says ideal for outdoor furniture it has a nice warm look to it ,what type of mill is that I dont recognise it.
