UK Arb Industry

i had a great time at the UK and I comp it was mint comp. but man what a shameful show out. there was only 17 people in the Comp and not enough supporters either. really shame its going this way. Arbcamp was nothing, nothing happen. the venue was amazing, the trees where awesome but where were the people? i understand the comps are not for everyone, but these comps do help push new gear, new ideas, training, keeping in touch, contact, drinking, camping, goodtimes, etc etc.

this is also one of our few ways of promoting arboriculture and the professionalism required to undertake the job to the wider public. makes me pretty worried in the way it is going in the UK, i think it is real ashame.

i would love some other thoughts on this topic?

I had no idea it was on. Lack of promotion.. Maybe all the single line climbers dont fancy getting spanked in a top down doubled rope work climb..

If the comps are to help innovation, the judges have to embrace innovation and allow it at the competition.

Rant over.

Tbh even if they did let me climb single line i wouldnt bother... im not that competitive.

I think they should have kept it at Capel Manor like they originally intended.

Better access for a lot more people and would of helped rekindle the celebration of trees event.

.

Totally agree. I don't know what prompted the last minute change in venue but it obviously didn't work. There were a load of arbs at Capel on Friday anyway for the CAS seminar and ISA cert arb exams....that would have more than doubled the numbers.

The UK Arb industry has the perfect platform to advertise... On here!

The only thing I heard about the event was from Aaron MJ. Other than that not a bean. I obviously looked at social media sites etc for results and stuff. Surely better promotion and organisation would lead to a better turnout.

A bit like the death of the celebration of trees. Perfect platform to get the word out there, a bit of foresight and that show would still be kicking it.

Before anyone gets offended, I have no idea what it takes to organise such an event? Is it a volunteer basis? Fees for venue etc?

Ok so the general consensus is that is was not well promoted?

this is good feedback, as i can pass/email the feedback on. yeah i guess change in Venue would change things too, but where it was just north Birmingham is pretty middle ground for everyone.

i get that not everyone is competitive, but as i mentioned before it is not just about that.

it was advertise on here in the Comp forum maybe better in the climbers forum next time? but i agree more needs to be done. was a really shame but also cool as it meant you get to meet everyone and chat/drink :)
