HAAS knee ascender.

Since I started on SRTWP I've been using a Pantin on left foot and right handed hand ascender with foot loop. I then found that my left knee started to hurt because of the Pantin so I bought a right foot Pantin.

However, I then found co-ordination issues having my left foot in the loop etc, just like writing with your wrong hand.

The obvious thing to do is keep practicing so that my technique improves.

 

Sod that, I've just ordered a HAAS knee ascender instead!

It actually appears to be an improvement on my current set up in terms of efficiency of movements and I can see that by having both hands on my rope above the Hitch Hiker, a more upright efficient position will be encouraged.

Also, I prefer the idea of not having a toothed ascender above my hitch.

Anyway, I have some tall tree jobs coming up so I can't wait to try it.

I am using ddrt and using a right foot pantin which works great. I have thought of using something on my left leg don't no if the haas system would work on this set up. It's quite expensive will be interested to see how you get on.

It does work well on drt I believe the system was first introduced on doubled rope, it was the first time I saw it being used before HAAS.

Just made myself one on the weekend, works fantastic but nothing on the real thing I doubt. Used it a couple of times already and makes ascending quick, but most important is quick to take off and start work.

Mine still needs a few adjustments.

Once you get the adjustments on your homemade one dialed in it'll be just as good as the readymade HAAS.

 

Either way it's an awesome tool for SRT ascent!

It's having the elastic go all the way down to the foot but inside the rope that makes the haas different and better. Loads more elastic to pull the ascender up.

Works lovely on a double rope, i used to have a croll with a prusic made into a footloop at knee height, a piece of elastic off my treemotion clipped on above my splice using a tibloc, if you have the stuff already its really straightforward to put together and works the finest:)

That's exactly why I bought the proper HAAS.

I've got all the bits lying around but I wanted the elastic inside the rope.

Drew or Old Mill, What is the benifit of having the elastic that goes all the way through the rope? Wouldn't it do the same if it was just attached to the top of the Croll/Basic? Sorry if this is a really obvious one but I've not seen one of these in the flesh.
