Bit harsh IMO. It's gotta be scary making the jump. You want to be competitive but make a profit.

Lots of unexpected cost and variables.

Charge as much as you think you can get away with without losing the job

I charge what the job will stand and add up the costs of everything

It's not harsh Joe.

Pricing is the most important part of running a business.

You wouldn't make the jump without learning how to use a saw, would you?

This is how you calculate your rates.

 

Work out your overheads for the first year.

Add on whatever you want to earn.

Divide by the number of days you want to work.

 

That is the amount you need to bring in every day you work.

And be prepared for the first time you wildly underprice a big job and watch life collapse into the financial abyss !

On the flip side, be prepared for when you wildly overprice, get the job , and laugh all the way to the bank !( but its usually the first )
