about 80% of my payments are bacs now i do prefer it,less hassle

Probably nearly 90% now, gradually talking people around. Old folk are the hardest, they think it's dodgy and someone could steal their money, so cheques from them still for now, but most prefer it.

wish some of the councils i work for would go BACS but there acountants still in dark ages and has to be paid by cheque signed by two people so need a council meeting to get it done.

now get them in early so waiting to be paid when council meet.

As a self employed labourer 95% of those I work for pay Bacs.

 

Cheques were a nightmare as most could not fill them in properly, dates missing, amounts not tallying, no signature, having to chase to get them to re write or correct cheques was a pain until I learned I could correct them myself! Signature not a problem didn't even need to be close or right name, even cashed an un signed cheque once, didn't notice until I passed it under the counter it still cleared.

As Andy says, some older folks still pay by cheque, and don't have the facilities to do BACS.

TBH with smart phone technology the way it is now I am surprised that you can't just take a card payment on your mobile on the customers doorstep.

 

But yes, we get a lot of BACS payments these days.
