Chainsaw that is a Bandsaw!

Been looking for anyone that makes chainsaw to bandsaw attachments and someone here (thanks Alec) mentioned 'Rip Saw' Ripsaw portable sawmills - welcome

It looks like a perfect side partner to the Alaskan chainsaw mill.

- Rip through the big stuff to get it down to size with the Alaskan,

- and do final dimensions with the Ripsaw

Thoughts on this, and any other manufacturers, UK importers interested??....

Here's the RipSaw in operation on youtube....

i'd be interested in that too but as no one seems to import them i'm stuck looking for other methods.

can't find another maker of anything like this that fits to a chainsaw though. bit of a bugger as it looks a right handy bit of kit, just think of all those trees we could save from land fill if we all had one of them.

does anyone else think that a grand is a bit steep???

I'd look at importing these but I don't think they are CE marked - that is a bit of an expensive stumbling block...

:001_smile:

Darn, I did think of you....was hoping you could sort it out Rob!

Do they have to be CE marked?

I think a grand is at the upper price range for what it can do; but then again, it does have more moving parts compared to an Alaskan mill.

In theory it could pay for itself pretty quick.

The RipSaw is exactly the thing I was trying to explain to the guy who's selling the circular saw bench (SilverClaw)... I think there's a huge market for something like this in the UK. Proof is in how popular the Alaskan mill has been.....

I don't know of anyone else with one of these in the UK. Having run one for a few years I would say they can pay for themselves pretty quickly at that price and would stand a bit more.

The downsides.

No CE mark, although they are well guarded and may just be acceptable for marking as they stand.

The company owner doesn't seem too bothered about increasing sales so won't do anything tricky like ship to the UK.

Otherwise, on a good day it's an excellent bit of kit. Mine should be coming out for a play next Sat and I'll see if Burrell can video it.

If it is basically well engineered then collating a technical file and putting a CE mark on is no big deal, probably expensive if you have to pay someone to produce one, there are plenty of firms that do this.

The one piece of equipment I researched a technical file for had a number of small discrepancies which I did not think were acceptable, someone else still marked it though.

Anyone remember what CE stands for? Caveat Emptor IMO:001_tongue:

It's crazy that there aren't more companies making or supplying them.

.... I contacted Milwaukee technical department a while ago to see if they'd be interested in working on some kind of bandsaw for milling, but they didn't seem to be that arsed.
