I'll be 60 in 19 years but I reckon if I just buy more and more gear and gadgets climbing will get easier.

I'm really enjoying this thread!

 

I'm 26 and started out in tree work 2 years ago, I find I have an ever present sense of mortality and find all this talk of "old boys still climbing" very inspirational!

A team mate of mine turns 58 next month, he's the first one in the team to get his kit out of the van to go climbing, sometimes got to tell him let the young ones climb and have a rest instead, but it seems he just loves climbing. as I'm only a young 32 I hope I'm still at it when I reach that age too, nice one grandad!!

I'm 56 this year and still find climbing a lot easier than dragging brush and pushing it through the chipper.

That's any tree as the bigger they are the more of my weight they will take !!

Oh for the days of three knots and three strand. The Prussic loop and an eye in the end of your rope was a major innovation at the time.

 

geeze I feel old hearing that, im 26 and climb on prussic still.

Think things have to be put into a little perspective here . Its one thing saying you are still climbing at 50 etc ( random figure btw ) but climbing what ? A 35m black poplar or someones backdoor birch , cherry etc ? Climbing everyday or you can just actually still climb a random tree ?

I can still climb anything, but Christ I feel it after a full day in a big tree.

It makes more sense to me commercially to get a younger, faster freelancer in.

 

SRT access has helped me massively, and has definitely improved my longevity as a climber.

 

I am 45 stone.
