I'm relatively new to the game but after lots of research into footwear I eventually went for a brand new pair of Meindl Airstreams, this was about 6 months ago. I started working for a small tree surgery business up in North Devon in August and have been since and loving it!

My problem is with the boots sole's-they are so slippery I feel like I am taking my life in my hands whenever there are wet drain covers, wet wood to walk over, cobbles (I am in Clovelly quite often), or any hard wet surfaces. Now, I am getting to the stage where my boss would like to start me climbing-I can't even imagine climbing a wet tree with these boots on-it would be suicidal!!!

Has anyone else had a similar experience? I think the sole's are just to hard and thick :confused1:

I'm gonna sell them and get some Eltens I think, so if anyone would like a decent pair of Meindl Airstreams size 8 let me know!

The Vibram soles are like that . Sam,e on my Zermatts . There is a new Vibram sole however , just being marketed now to combat that problem . There is a thread on here about it . Short vid of bloke walking to and fro on the ice . Seems to have sorted it . I am size 8 by the way .........:001_smile:

Any tree when wet is slippery airstreams or not.

I find them slippery but not dangerously slippery.

Tbh you need to change your climbing style when climbing a wet tree I find sycamores the worse trees to climb in the wet

Definitely dangerous.

Today whilst wearing mine:

A telehandler got stuck in the mud.

A big tree got hung up.

The telehandler blew a tyre.

My 395xp went 'pop'!

Dangerous stuff!

Hahaha!

Despite the 'hardness' of them, my main grip with Vibram soles is that they wear out after a year for me. Admittedly I am on concrete much of the time.

That said, I've yet to find a more comfortable safety boot. £180 a year is small change for comfortable feet every day.

Perhaps try some of the TimberCats that HoneyBros are supposed to be getting in? Airstreams in yellow with retractable studs. So long as the studs are tungsten, they should provide both much better grip and much better sole life when used on suitable surfaces.
