Running in a new 560xp

Hi all, I received delivery of a new 560xp today and want to run it in correctly. In the past I have always just cracked on and used them as normal. I believe the modern way of running them in is to use them hard rather than let them tick over and take it easy on them. I have also heard of ways to set the auto tune, along the lines of, 'full revs into a large log for 4 minutes non stop', can anybody confirm this please? Thanks in advance, marc.

 

I don't think it has to be non stop, as long as you don't do something else with it in the meantime.....

 

Remove the spark arrestor before you start cutting.

 

Also remember that this isn't the full run in of the saw - it just is about setting the AutoTune.

I have been thinking about this today, can it hurt to run the saw in for a couple of hours, and then set the auto tune?

 

Modern tolerances are very tight, but a couple of hours of gentle use to let the piston ring (or rings) bed in must be good.

 

Not running through the full rev range, or just idling may not be the best thing, but running v hard straight out of the box does worry me.

Agreed. Never messed about with mine. Just got on with it. AutoTune does what it says on the tin: tunes itself. So look after the saw, work it sensibly, enjoy the capability This 'setting the autotune' thing is getting like a religious tenet. Do you need that in your life?

frees up the flow of the exhaust gasses some . Runs better and slightly cooler . Your not going to set anything alight in this climate ! ! !

I once set a dead elm alight with sparks from a 372. Burned for 2/3 days during hot and windy weather. Poured gallons of water on it, but it did no good. Just kept re-lighting in the wind. Really was very dry, but rotten wood. Right next door to a school outdoor holiday Centre. Was rather embarrassed about it. I've noticed this problem on 2 husky 372's
