Running in a new 560xp

Hi all, I received delivery of a new 560xp today and want to run it in correctly. In the past I have always just cracked on and used them as normal. I believe the modern way of running them in is to use them hard rather than let them tick over and take it easy on them. I have also heard of ways to set the auto tune, along the lines of, 'full revs into a large log for 4 minutes non stop', can anybody confirm this please? Thanks in advance, marc.

Hi all, I received delivery of a new 560xp today and want to run it in correctly.

I am in the same boat, have read the book, it says "Running in, avoid running at a too high speed for extended periods during the first 10 hours".

But in Carb adjustment it says "Accelerate the engine and saw a number of cuts in a thick log (3-5min). The chain saw must run 8000-12000 the entire time so that the carb can adjust itself"

So it must mean "run it like you stole it but don't scream the nuts off it".

I will be revving it in the power band 9600 for 5 mins in oak

Have you removed the spark arrestor ?

HI ALEX it still fast on a 20"bar 3.8/3,25 thanks jon

Yes mate. (on 3/8) - i won't be using it for all day logging, that would be for 70cc+, but it can certainly pull a 20" bar through any wood, i'm confident of that after testing it on the beech. So a good lightweight saw for climbing when the 200t is too small.

4 mins seems an awful long time, be quite nervy but if that's what it says....

Thanks all.

Whats the spark arrestor?

Hows your new job going Alex?

Small screw on top of exhaust can . Remove it then slide the mesh screen out and put both in a small plastic bag , place in a draw and forget about them .....
