good stuff, very interested in anything WW1/2

 

we really don't know how easy we have it now!

 

some v sad pictures, makes me wonder how low humans can sink.

There was a programme on last week about Artic convoy PQ17 which lost 24 out of its 35 merchant vessels. I mentioned it to someone I know and his father in law was on that convoy and his ship was sunk. He and the captain were the last ones off and when they were hauling themselves in to the life boat, one of the stokers (dressed only in shorts, vest and neckerchief!!) took his neckerchief off and said, "Hang on captain, seats a bit wet, let me dry it for you!!" Humour in the face of adversity.

 

Unfortunately, I think Jeremy Clarkson was the wrong person to present the documentary.

 

I too am very interested in WW2, especially personal experiences and would recommend the Steven Ambrose books and "Flags of Our Fathers".
