You asked "why such a negative view?", obviously there will be no negativity if permission is granted.

The previous posts seem to indicate the all arisings have money value and Joe public get in the way. I think people sometimes get the wrong end of the stick. Me included. Happy new year skyhuck.

I do get sick and tired of people stoping and asking for free wood whenever we are working road side, they look at you like you've shot their dog when you say no.

They often park must inappropriately and come wondering under the tree, meaning we need to stop working, so IME the public very often do "get in the way".

Happy new year to you too :001_smile:

i use arb waste as firewood it all costs money theres the diesel a large heavy duty trailer a 4x4 to tow it the handling it umteen times building sheds to house the stuff so need more land then a log splitter then some saws & chains & fuel & maintainance i share all the stuff i get between 4 of us but i suffer the costs i do get help splitting it up sometimes but if you was to try and split arb waste with an axe well all i can say is i dont/wont and some of its worth more in scrap nails and because iam reducing it smaller i hit more nails thus more chains £££££££££££££ some days i feel like giving up with the stuff and either buy it in all done ready or pay a gas bill arb waste is hard work compared to cord>> thats why i built a h/d splitter its slowish but strong chomp,s away and what it wont split i cut up with a chainsaw all takes time & fuel and i,am more worn out at the end of the day  good luck

I'm always on the lookout for cheap wood. But it does depend a lot on price.

On the rare occasion I have too much, my look on it is that it's in the way. I would have to drive home to dump it which takes me off of the work site. I don't have a processor but from the view of a larger firm, if it doesn't fit in one then it's simply too much bother to deal with economically? So if someone just down the road wants it they shouldn't have to pay full timber value as it's essentially waste.

I'd be happy to pay someone some beer money for what is essentially a mutual favour which helps both of us (it speeds up your unload time of troublesome waste which in turn ups your profit on the job). But if you want a tenner a load less than you'd want for decent cord then you can keep it! Unfortunately most of the contact I've had so far (not through this forum I should add) has been this way. I'm simply not prepared to pay that much for stuff that takes a long time for me to process.
