Yes sounds mad not practical bla bla

There's an old green goddess hidden away in a shed in the woods , due to age it's tax and mot exempt.

now be a few years yet before I go it alone but , my idea is take the back water tank and fire tender off the chassis and basically make it into a flatbed, it's 4 wheel drive and in good order, could do the valves and LPG it for cheap as well, rear capacity would be huge amd obviously plenty space up front in the cab for tools and saws.

has anyone done this before ?

Amd good idea or stupid....

Think of the attention it will get free advertising mot and tax exempt .....

I thought about this a while ago when I saw some on scrap heap challenge and recon if you could find a decent one it would make quite a successful arb truck however I was considering a tipper conversion maybe with a hiab too.

Could take a lot of time and work though plus I'm sure spares are pretty hard to come by

What weight class would it be in and what licence would be needed? I suppose you may be able to get it ag/arb/forestry registered so you can drive on a standard licence?

Have you thought this through?

Have you ever driven a vintage HGV?

I thought not, otherwise you wouldn't be considering this as a viable option.

As others have said if you use it commercially its not tax or MOT exempt.

Parts will be scarce.

Compared to modern trucks it will be a turd to drive

Does anyone else you know do this? Did you wonder why?

Probably need hgv, unless it registered as agri use only , I mean they only do 40mph tops, I had thought about the diesel idea, it would be finding one that will fit into the tranny

LPG May be worth looking into surely ?, yeah it's basically a truck chassis with a tender bolted on the rear , I'm all for saving old vehicles but goddesses are ten a penny these days , plus it's good to find a use for an old vehicle , ill source all parts for the backend from salvage but it will look grand , the spares side well there places that have broke them , it's only dome 1100 miles so diffs should in theory be ok, it's the engine that's the issue , an old cat Diesel engine would be ideal I'll need to see don't wanna have to fabricate parts everywhere

Its probably much the same beast underneath as our Bedford MK 4x4 watering unit. Just finished five years of watering trees on the motorways and parks so I was thinking of doing the same by fitting a flatbed on the back using twist locks so it can have different bodies or the original tank if need be without all the spannering. Its probably the same as the goddess at about 12ton gross .Tough as old boots.
