I find no matter what type of socks you wear you still get cold feet. Years ago I tried some thick inner soles for my boots, they are made of a type of rubber about 6-8mm thick, and these stop the cold coming through the sole. I have used these for years with only a thin pair of socks and my feet are nice and warm all year, even when working in snow.

I get terrible circulation in the cold, especially if standing logging all day in the snow; chilblains aren't fun . I found good foam type, or fleece/sheepskin insoles help a lot. Also thermal long johns under chainsaw trousers! Warm legs help keep feet warm.
