I have always used pulleys when rigging and its time to replace the one I use. I normally use the blue isc for either my main anchor point or when rigging down the stem onto itself. I've never normally had any problems with this set up on either a dead eye sling or a whoopie sling, but now the new x-rings are out I'm thinking of changing to one of these instead. they both work out the same price, so was wondering what people thoughts are using the new ring system instead of the pulley thanks

Done some milling over the years but this is the first time finishing a job for a customer. Look at the grain in this oak when it was first cut, shame it faded quite a lot when it dried out.

i'm thinking of getting the stihl extendable pole saw ht 103 and putting a hedge trimmer attachment on it for the larger/taller hedges after talking to various shops they have said that I can't fit a hedge trimmer attachment on the end, as they have changed the design of the shaft so it won't fit. they have said that recently they have changed the shape of the shaft to a square one to make it more ridged. I looked at the battery ones but so far I haven't got any other battery machines so to get this type of set up would cost a lot as I need the charger and a couple of batteries. so what are people using/recommend for this type of machine? thanks

mine went on a 05 canter a couple of months ago. Mitsubishi said a new one was 3 grand and a 3-4 week wait so I went down the second hand option too. in the end I got mine from Van Spares and Van Parts, Engines, Gearboxes, Vehicle Dismantlers, Vehicle Breakers for about 600 delivered. and it only took 2 days to be delivered

thanks for info regarding this, with some interesting views. I decided to use a old section of walnut in the end, which came out very well. I will hopefully plank up the oak over Christmas and then think about what to do with it

recently i tried milling for the first time with some 2ft diameter oak that had been felled 6 years ago. thinking that this would be ok I sanded it to make into chopping boards for Christmas presents. but some have cracked and others have warped to the point that they move so obviously can't be used. I came across a dead oak that has been hanging in another tree for years. which the land owner says I can have. my question is that do you think I could cut and sand these for Christmas? and do you think they will still dry and crack, even though the tree has been dead for years? thanks

just wondering what people do regarding hiring out there machinery? I have got a new chipper now and I am thinking about hiring out my old chipper to some of my landscaping customers. what are the legal requirements regarding giving them instruction to using it? will I have to have something in the paperwork saying its the users responsibility to have adequate training, and ppe which will be needed. I will make a contract saying about misuse will have to be paid for etc, and its there responsibility for loss of the machine. can anyone think of anything else to add to this contract. thanks for your help malcolm

its never done it before and we have used it when its almost dark. It hadn't been used had when it started to glow, I had only had it running for 2 mins when driving it into the shed. I took the spark plugs out today and the one on the glowing side is the grey one and the black one is from the good side any more ideas, as I haven't taken the exhaust off yet

when I was putting our Vermeer 252 away today I noticed that half of the exhaust was glowing bright red. any ideas? I was thinking along the lines of a broken exhaust valve on one side am I on the right track thanks

I have had a survey done on a massive twin stem cedar and they have suggested a steel brace low down and a cobra brace higher. does anyone know where you can order a made to measure slings to go around the tree, to attach the steel cable to. I will need them to have a metal attachment at each end. also a 10 ton cobra style bracing has been recommended higher in the canopy, but can only find this type of bracing produce up to 8 tons, anyone know any places to buy the stronger stuff thanks

i'm having the same problem with regards to getting spares for a jameson pole pruner. I have needed a new spring but every time I phone and order one its the wrong size. but I have phoned and asked and that's the only one they supply, but is only 2/3 the length of the one needed. they also say just buy a whole new cutting head, but this seems a little over the top to replace a £5 spring

i have noticed that the 2 bolts that hold the bottom roller in place from the opposite side to the motor have broken off, causing the roller to drop on one side, so these bolts need replacing. I have noticed that from other posts you have said that the 'roller spline' can be hard to remove. once the bolts have been removed I take it that it should just slide out! but I assume that sap etc. builds up on this and makes it difficult to just slide out. have you any tips on removing this. also do you think that the bolts that go into the roller spine would be thread locked in. thanks

when I first saw the new black 230 at the apf last year I thought it looked really good. has anyone got a black chipper and are there any advantages and disadvantages having that colour. what other colours chippers do people have and why? thanks

We normally use neoprene chest waders with steel toe capped boots on over the top. You could use old chainsaw boots if you wanted but you would need to buy them a couple of sizes bigger. The waders are very good and quite resident to thorn's but can be hot during the summer but as most of our river work is this time of year I don't mind wearing them at all.

Ive had a few pairs that have done this. Nowadays they seem to last 6 months before it starts to happen. I don't think it is sawdust, I think its the material moving down, making then unbearable to wear, even if the rest of the boot has plenty of life left in it. Ive contacted haix and had no response at all. Ive asked at the shop and they said they will contact them on my behalf, again no response. So now we have moved on to mendi to see how long they last.

Ive had a few pairs that the material has moved down into the toe area, making them unusable, even though the rest of the boot is fine.

I have had this problem recently where i took a Lombardy down and new growth has appeared through a tarmac tennis court and pushed up a patio. I have treated the new growth with strong round up and seems to be working. I will put some photos up when i get on my computer later.
