Best tip I have is to wear 2 pairs, a nice thin pair of cotton socks and then good quality mohair or wool on top, that way you don't have to change the expensive warm ones every day meaning you need fewer pairs..

I find no matter what type of socks you wear you still get cold feet. Years ago I tried some thick inner soles for my boots, they are made of a type of rubber about 6-8mm thick, and these stop the cold coming through the sole. I have used these for years with only a thin pair of socks and my feet are nice and warm all year, even when working in snow.

I made a pair of leather insoles for my toecap boots and was surprised how much warmer it made them. My feet feel damp and clammy even when they are too cold to sweat but a pair of thin Merino socks under my everyday keeps them warmer.

I get terrible circulation in the cold, especially if standing logging all day in the snow; chilblains aren't fun . I found good foam type, or fleece/sheepskin insoles help a lot. Also thermal long johns under chainsaw trousers! Warm legs help keep feet warm.
