New stihl saws?

I do not know because some rave about the 441 but we found it was a very poor saw, sure partnered with a 16" bar it was a flyer, it just spent more time getting maintained with bits breaking off it constantly, broken av's and various plastics. So it ended up on the parts shelf, yet the 460's that are older and been in service 4 times longer were the go to saws of choice.

We now have 461's as other than the golden screw capped 10 years old 460 which still runs like a champ the other 460's were stolen. And have to say the 461 really feels like a proper Stihl saw should.

Also have a 661 and again solid build unlike the 441's and so far impressed, let's see how they fair after a couple of years.

The 441 is basically a 372xp with autotune, I don't understand why it has the dislike it does, the strato engine is tried and tested, as is the carb, after all that's been about for over 5 years! Unless it's just the build quality of the 'smaller' stihl saws nowadays?

I don't know, maybe it's because the 441 was Stihl's first stab at that style of saw, it is much like a Husky in feel, we tend to be very rough with saws so maybe it's not an issue with the 441 itself but us the end users.

The 460's tended to absorb the abuse we gave it.

If I was to by my own personal saw it would be a Husky 372 if I buy it for the company it would be a Stihl 460/1 they just seem to accept indifferent multi user abuse.

I am always curious about what witchcraft those who praise 201's use, to make them run "nice", "good", " adequate" !?!?

A company I work for regularly, had all their saws stolen during a break in a few weeks ago. Including 4 201's & 1 x 200. The 201's were all a bunch of gutless KAK and there use to be a fight evry day by the crews trying to grab the single 200 for the days job.

All the stolen saws have now been replaced with brand new saws, but now they have 5 x 201's. And they are all a bunch of gutless misery without exception. It does'nt matter what you cut, dead oak, euc, lime.... etc..... they all bog down in a heartbeat, slow, horrid machines, even my old granny has got more grunt. And she's been dead 10 years!!!!! Seriously I have'nt yet tried a 201 that was worth its weight in dog crap, let alone gold.

On a more positive note. I have tried the new 661 with a 20" bar, and it was gooooooood!

Ill give the 540 its credit and its a torquey beast that seems to gain more power by the week ... It's now snapping my wrists with the compression ! It does need choking though if put down for 5 mins so I wonder how it will cope when the weather warms up.
