MS261 is out of warrenty, any modding ideas?

But surely.... if they were or are known for breaking due to being upped in power from previous model yet sproket bearing staying the same and giving hassle / snapping cranks

 

Why would you want to get more power from it :confused1:

 

Mines fine with a 15" bar and decent chisel chain. If i want more power i go for the 70cc saw

 

Not having a go. Just wanting to make you aware if not allready :001_smile:

Despite its poor reviews from many on here its been worked hard everyday almost for over a year now and never missed a beat BUT the warrenty is now out so im looking for any ideas to get a little more poke out of it?

 

Muffler mods?

 

Started out as the ugly duckling but after modifications turned out OK

Buy a 362 would be my advice if wanting more power.

Porting saws surely leads to potential H&S nightmare should anyone be hurt.

My assumption was the issues with the crank/clutch had been sorted on the OPs saw. I believe that the early ones had issues with the cranks not bring machined correctly and this would knock the sprocket bearing out but using the spur sprocket sorted the issue.

 

I don't believe it was caused by the saw being made too powerful for the drive gear.

 

It is of course, worth taking in to consideration but in reality, once the power is on, the sprocket, clutch and crank are locked together so the needle bearing is under no or minimal load and is only spinning at idle speed.

I was aware the first run had some issues but as said mine is a later saw which ive had no problems with.

 

I always thought the X61's where more restricted by EU emissions etc than the older x60's ? Same with the 200 v 201?

 

Porting is overkill for i feel for the little gain but a muffler mod may help it pick up a little quicker?

 

Kinda in the dark here and i do have a selection of larger saws but the 261 is used the most so was more wanting to free up any potential is has but not wanting to offset reliability etc
