  1. yup i would check the bar, oiling channel will be full of sawdust i bet.
  2. yes, it just needed a retune i put the bar and chain back on, it cuts like it used to. i have an idea that the jet screws had vibrated in, the more i used the saw the leaner it became. if i think about the saws performance it all makes sense, it started revving up on its own and stalling, a sign it was lean. the screws are quite loose, i think a drop of locktite is in order here. i still need to lean it out in the cut i think, it is a bit rich but i have no more wood to cut atm. a big thanks to you guys for helping me out here, eddy_t and spud i may well try out aspen eddie@aspen, after i run out of the 2 stroke oil to mix. thanks for nothing maloys mowers, we can't be bothered to fix your saw.co.uk chris.
  3. i put the saw back together today. cut slots in the carb screws, started it up with the screws about 2.5 turns out which sounded to lean so at 3 turns out it was much better, now it will tickover nice. it also revs up on w.o.t so i have to put the chain and bar on and give it a go so far so good, wish me luck chris
  4. used to get them adjustment screw limiters on some cars i used to work on years ago, when they had carb's. they where a pain and mostly ended up removed from the carb. as well as an array of different tools we used to have to make to adjust the carb. i will put this saw back together at some point, probably end up fixing it myself by the looks of it. makes me wonder if the shop i took it to have the spline tool to adjust the carb. chris.
  5. how true. i know ill never buy another mccolluch saw, thats for sure chris
  6. i got back to mccolluch uk, still no word from them..
  7. oh.. i thought it would run ok on urine i had to walk miles to find that bottle..
  8. seems better than my suggestion joe
  9. exactly what i thought... what about my fuel mix, is it correct? he also did not say anything about a leak/vacum test.
  10. i could come along and we can see how long it takes to down a tree by throwing a mccolluch at it...
  11. guys, the shop phoned me and said that i had been running the saw on the wrong % mix... he showed me some fuel he said he drained out of the tank and it looked like raw fuel, he said it should be red, well the fuel i put in it was red. then he showed me the bore and said it had 2 nicks out of it. i said ok fine and took the saw home, now im home im looking at the bore and those nick's he is talking about look like bubbles in the casting to me. the bore has no steel liner. the piston has no damage to it like you would expect if it had grabbed some alloy from the bore. as i dont use this saw very often i only mix up 500ml of fuel at a time, the manual says 1:50 ratio which is 10ml of oil to 500ml of petrol. so now my saw is in bits... what shall i do guys... here are pics of the bubble in the casting and the side of the piston which the bubble is... the rest of the fuel from what was in the tank looked like this... thanks again guys, chris.
  12. the saw has gone to malloys mowers for repairs, authorized by the guy i emailed at mccholluch uk i hear you welshwoodman, stuff these days just dont last 5 mins. the saw has had like less than 7 lts of fuel through it... doobin, i still may end up doing that... we will see what happens. cheers guys, chris
  13. i have spent hours on this saw... i can't get it to run right i think i will shoot mcculloch an e mail...this is getting silly, i also notice eveytime i refill with fuel the tank filler screw gets tighter. i can barely screw the cap back in now after filling, so tight it hurts my pinkys. i just put fresh fuel in today just incase the old fuel had gone off, no change chris
  14. ya, cheers spud. i watched a few tuning vids on youtube and thats pretty much what they said. basically i need it just lean of 4 stroking on idle with good pickup. so will they loose compression when too hot or would they just seize? chris
  15. spud, when i used to tune 2 stroke nitro engines i would use a temp gun to determine the correct needle settings.. if the engine where to over heat the barrel would expand more than the piston so they would loose compression and cut out, they had ABC barrels. will my saw do the same? and any idea what the normal/ideal running temp would be? sorry to bug you. chris.
  16. eww i know, dont remind me about your thumb i must say i have never had the pleasure of drilling holes in myself yer, it looks strong thats for sure.. chris
  17. im loving the home brew splitter there spud chris.
  18. engine oil poisons the water table, stop using it..if the enviro guys catch you doing that im sure you will get in trouble... one litre of engine oil contaminates 1000s of litres of water.. need i say more. +1 for the pure rapeseed oil, cheaper than engine oil as well. my saw has no bar oiling issues. chris.
  19. ok, so the carb is clean as can be... looks like new inside, no debris. reset both needles to 2 and a half turns out, H needle was allready around there. start up, i needed to increase the idle screw to get it to tickover. its badly 4 stroking on tickover now so i assume that is too rich. but leaving it running and it revs up for a few seconds then cuts out. is that because is it too rich? as i under stood it, thats lean? like i said, i really dont get this 2 stroke tuning.. cheers, chris.
  20. ahh, thanks ray, that sounds better than 1 turn out. im checking the carb for a blockage... whats with all the triangle bolts holding this together, i have never seen that before. some kind of self locking bolts.. cheers, chris.
  21. i dont know what i am doing with 2 strokes... i need help i thought it had it sweet... now it wont tickover again. reminds me of a 4 stroke with a blocked carb.. chris.
  22. cheers spud, ive quit for the night now. i dont trust my method to drive the screws, i just tried to count the turns in but i cant tell whether its bottomed out the needle or its slipping.. i went to 2 turns but cant tell what happened, H needle. it will probably never run again now cheers, chris
  23. thanks spud, i followed your advice but it sounds like it has a problem to me, it will tickover for longer now but the idle is very uneven, revs up on its own then cuts out i hate tuning 2 strokes.. i should have got a huge 4 stroke lol i dont suppose you know the std needle settings do you? i might have the needles out and cut a slot in them.. im using a make do tool and it is not working too well chris.
  24. hi guys, its been a great summer, lots of hot weather so the workshop heater has not been running, nor has my chainsaw. and now it wont tickover even after increasing idle screw and on w.o.t it just bogs down and cuts out.. fuel is fresh.. what do you guys think...? i think it needs a tune. this is my mccrappy cs 360t, the t stands for terrible i forget what size spline the carb adjusters are... 6mm i think cheers, chris
