  1. im wondering if a sugi hara bar would fit on my mccullock im thinking about a new bar and chain but have no clue what i would need to order im sure my saw would run a bigger bar, only by an inch or 2 i need some of those dogs like stubby has, but smaller ones so they dont look out of place on my saw. when i try cut cut small branches they tend to spin around becasue i only have dogs on the inside... maybe i need to get machining myself a new one so that it can have an outside dog bolted to it.... hmmm chris
  2. ok.. i stand corrected, this downed tree was an ash tree, it was just one branch had split off, this branch was huge... the saw worked perfectly all day, it only stalled once, it was low on fuel. even tho this branch at its biggest point was 18" diameter, the saw cut without issues and we had it cut up in about 1 hour into 3 foot lengths. now my wood pile is looking better i could not get anymore wood in my car . this is just a small part of this huge branch, it was split between 3 of us and there is more for me to pickup if i run low. i had the saw cutting full length of the bar and it was cutting well, did not bog down and the cuts where nice and straight. it was nice to work out in the countryside for a change instead of pushing spanners, i loved driving the 4wd kubota little truck jim let us drive the wood back to the cars with...i really had a fun day out. jim also let us fell a few smaller trees that where growing across the track through the woods, so i felled my first tree ... it fell exactly where i planned chris
  3. ill check the tank breather out... thanks eddy im not sure how hard it is to open after a run... i never use it long enough to use a full tank. i will do tomorrow morning tho, im off to a forest to cut up and collect some downed beech trees chris.
  4. hi guys, more advice please. i am now using my saw every 2-3 days to chop up fire wood to keep the workshop warm. remember my post about the fuel tank pickup? the saw was stalling so i figured it was running out of fuel at low tank level due to the pick up sticking up above the fuel, the pickup is now staying in the corner of the tank laying down and the saw is still stalling. the other day i used nearly a whole tank cutting timber, i noticed that everytime i left the saw on the floor on idle (even when the tank was full) as soon as i picked up the saw it would cut out. i also noticed that after some cuts it would run on for a few seconds then go back to idle speed. as i said before im a 4 stroke engine mechanic but i have lots of experience with 2 stroke nitro engines (rc model car glow engines). now if a glow engine is running too lean it will run on for a few seconds before returning to idle, so im guessing my saw is running lean. the saw has about 3 lt of fuel through it now and i have cleaned the air filter out twice. what do you think guys... does it sound like it is lean by the run on? also i have turned up the tickover screw by half a turn, the chain didnt run so i thought it was about ideal, what about the stalling? thanks, chris.

  7. i think leaving it as it is too. as others have said, it is great banter and entertaining. i too like to catch up on the thread when i have been away from this forum for a few days. much better than tv... imo it is also nice to see the problems, fix's and pictures, like an unofficial fix-it encyclopedia a good idea morten. but i think its best as is.. chris.

  9. hi guys. i just done a right number on my chain, i was cutting over the patio and caught the chain on the slab . i had to file down alot off the teeth to remove the damage, so whats the minimum tooth length.. cheers, chris.
  10. thanks guys.. i pulled the pipe out the tank about 5-7mm and that seems to have done the trick, the pipe was curling up. thanks for the offer Rich.. chris
  11. so getting a 16" bar is a bad idea? it says it can run up to 16" in the manual. is it because it is 36cc?? Rich, i think shortening the fuel line length in the tank should fix it.. chris

  13. nope, i have not. im not too fussed about emailing them tbh, apart from the bar the saw is fine. when the chain is dead i will get another chain and a longer bar.. i looked in the tank this morning and the filter pickup is back to its floating postion im gonna have to mod this...after i have used what is in the tank..i will try pulling the tube out from the tank a little, thanks eddy chris.
  14. do they put sealant round that grommet or is it just a push fit? chris
  15. ahh one more thing, the primer bulb valve can fail, test that by pumping up the primer bulb, keep squeezing, you should be able to feel it resist after a few pumps, if not replace the bulb... chris

  17. ya wouldnt hurt to check the tank. i would say change the fuel filter as a matter of course, it could be full of water (not unheard of). but before you do that queeze the primer bulb after it has cut out, if you can hear air inside it will have a leak. old school diesels suck from the tank, so if there is a leak it just sucks in air and then cuts out. air leaks in turbo/vacume hoses is also a good suggestion. have a look at thoses, change fuel filter then try it.. it wont be a compression problem. chris

  19. yes, i thought that too but the filter is light and the pipe is quite stiff i have managed to get it down in the corner of the tank, ill see if it stays there before i do any mods to it.. thanks peatff
  20. hi guys.. i was checking over my saw today and noticed the in tank fuel pickup is kinda sticking up. you would think it would be best to have the filter laying flat at the bottom of the tank, down in the lower corner, so the pickup is in the lowest point of the tank for both angles that you would use the saw at. i noticed that as the saw runs low on fuel (half a tank and under) the saw starts to cut out while on tickover. i can see the grommet where the feul pipe exits the tank just under the carb, is it ok to pull the fuel pipe out of the tank some more. reason i ask this is i have tried to move the filter with long nosed pliers but it just springs back to its current location. thanks.. chris

  22. there is a quite a difference between the industrial user and the hobby user. you may use that file 4-10 times a week where i would use it more like once every 2 weeks if that, mind you with sparks flying out of the conifer i may need a stihl one yet chris

  24. cheers rich, it has not fallen apart so far and i have used it twice..i suppose if it does i could doctor it to be a screw on affair. tbh i won't need it to hold another file as i have only one saw, it seems to work fine. cheers div_h H_A it has a bit of orange, and tbh i kinda like it black, it's like a stealth saw chris
