"While youre here, can you just..."

What do you normaly say ?. I arrived at a job this morning, to remove a small conifer & a couple of bushes, to be met a pile of cuttings/branches hacked off every other bush in the garden, that needed chipping.

I was going to charge £75/80 for the work i was intending to do, which would of been a builders bag of chippings. The pile they'd left doubled that, i did'nt quite double the price, but did charge more.

And got to cut next doors grass, so not a bad day realy.

Good reply I picked up on was...

Yes, certainly, no problem, - do you want that itemizing separately On the invoice or just all together? ( big smile all the time)

There is no such thing " as can you just" in my book, it does my bonce in when customers expect extras. I never refuse but even small things are costed and billed for, on the up side have never had any complaints

If its a tiny amount I wouldn't bother. If it's more significant, or they are a customer you're not really fussed about I tend to say something like,

'Shouldn't be a problem, just give me 5 minutes and I'll price it up for you - it's better for everyone to avoid surprises'

Only ever had a couple decline the extra work - both due to deliberate overpricing.

It could also depend on whether it would over-fill the van and require another trip.
