Are modern mechanics crap

I've got to agree over the fitter part. So far I've fitted new batteries to a 360, just because the old ones didn't start the machine. So new ones in and old ones in the bin. Didn't even get a chance to test them.

 

Got a small kabota 3t that is in need of a new oil pump. It's getting slow. So instead of re conning the old one buying a new pump.

 

Suppose the pump is easier as I will be driving it next week.

It does need to be born in mind that with the increase in labour costs these days a new part may be cheaper than time spent fixing things.

I think thats a big part of it, also it suits the manufacturers to keep parts prices high, modern paint is so good that cars rarely "die" due to rust, its just repairs that out weigh the cost of the vehicle, the dearer the parts the quicker the cars die.

The law of supply and demand mean that if cars lasted much longer fewer cars would be sold, and thats bad for the manufacturers.

 

Its an environmental crime but governments can't face the job losses in the car industry which is huge in europe, so things are left as they are.

 

The average truck will do a million miles but the average car only manages 100,000, ask yourself why?

rolls royce are the most environmentaly friendly car as over 90% of all rolls royce ever registered in the uk are still going and this excludes the exported ones
