the trouble is its not just dropping the liner down chimney and fitting it has to have a vermiculite cement mix put down outside of liner to keep heat in.

and it has to to have for insurance a HERAS certificate which they have to give when they fit it if anything goes wrong then its them who foot the bill.

shame your a bit far as have a chap who may have been able to do it all to spec. PM me pat i will give you his number and you can ask him.

Don't know what happened there, anyway, yes, included removing old hearth and fireplace, setting and rendering the new alcove for stove, fitting, register plate, co detector, certification etc. there was two guys and an apprentice and they were here three and a half days all told.

I want to fit a stove in my house but I have yet to convince the missus it would be a good thing. Saving a grand a year or more on gas bills would be a good thing but apparently that's not enough to convince her. Anyway I might do it one day when she's out to surprise her! I don't have a chimney to line so would have to go out through the wall. A double skin of normal brick which is rendered on top. Would all I have to do is drill through with a core drill at 45 degrees and at the other side when the flue is inserted seal up the gap with heat resistant silicone to stop any draughts/leaks. That's the only bit I am not sure of and I don't mind climbing the ladders to attach the flue pipe or stuff like that.

That seems a fair price :001_smile:

I fitted ours, our neighbors and my parents. Not very difficult but there could be an issue with it if no Heatas sign off so insurance could be a problem. To get around this you could contact you local building control to see what it would cost for them to sign off the work. Hedgsparow points out that it is good to have an insulated flue. This can be done with vermiculite around a single skin flue or fit double skinned liner. Good luck with it

A friend of mine fits wood burners for a living . He did mine with me helping for £500 ( mates rates ) That included fitting the liner and register plate and a cowl on top . He said if it was an official job it would be nearer a grand .

It really annoys me that these stove fitters almost always insist that you install a flue liner ? If you have a decent functional chimney you don't need one. Anyhow the liners only last on average 10 years . That's if the buggers are fitted right in the first place and not upside down like some Ive seen :laugh1:
