Maybe, but that's totally beside the point, I'm really not sure the defender was designed for towing the lenght of the country. You buy a vehicle that is fit for purpose, if your towing motorways and want to feel like your in a armchair- don't buy a landy. Pulling trailers along rough ground, give me a landy any day over the other crap, or a tractor:thumbup:

Next time I tow chipper up from the smoke to Cumbria to head through some field, remind me to hire a landy for that small purpose!!! Bollox

Apart from the bling new Ranger 5 cylinder and the £37 grand Navara V6 Outlaw (alloy block yuck), why can't the working man in the UK who wants the utility model (no glossy mirrors thanks or body kits but A/C ok) get more than 4 cylinders; a nice 6 cylinder machine with loads of tickover torque and towing prowess? No, we just get high pressured 2.5's whereas Ozzies and South Africans can get the Landcruiser 79 with 4.2 straight-6 or 4.5 V8 TD and a nice tipping body to boot. I understand Footloose 4x4 will import one for you and that makes me and atleast one other mate about to seriously consider going down this route and giving the 2-fingered salute to the euro trash on offer in blighty. RHD is an essential I have to add.

Anyone done this? There was someone on here backalong with a LHD 79 down a mine...

And your point.... I'm not saying jap pickups aren't capable of towing through fields, you clearly do a lot of long distance towing, so they are better suited for you.

I haven't been on a dual carriageway towing for a year, my landrover spends more time working off road then on, I believe its the best pickup on offer for the job.

As I say you buy a vehicle to suit your needs.

I'd still buy a landy. But it would have a discovery 4 badge on the back instead.
