Assuming that 'dual purpose vehicle' = pickup the limits are 60, 70, 70 when not towing and 50, 60, 60 when towing.

Goods vehicles- (check your tax disc to know- PLG)-if less than 7.5tonnes= 50 on single and 60 on dual (central reservation)- this will be most of us.

Goods vehicles exceeding 7.5t=40 on single and 50 on dual 60 on motorways

 

 

So an unladen 7.5 tonne towing a 750kg chipper is 40,50,60?

4x4s hilux,landy etc are exempt as they are dual purpose vehicles, any commercial that has a gross of 2t or over is limited , some speed cameras have sensors in the road that records the weight of vehicles passing

Been driving for about 25+ years now and thought i was fairly good.

For 25 of the above i've had my HGV ticket too.

 

Traveling North bound on the A1 last Sunday in the chip truck got flashed by a stationary camera.

 

Not a problem i thought, under 70 so ok. (actually doing 68)

 

WRONG !!!!

 

Apparently, the speed limit for a sub 7.5 ton vehicle on a dual carriage way is 60 !!!

 

Either its changed recently or i've been speeding daily for the last 20 odd years

Are you saying that going out in the morning unladed it would be 50,60,60 and coming home full to the gunwales with chip it would now be 40,50,60 as the GTW is 8.25 tonnes?

 

Doesn't make sense in that any lorry plated at over 7.5 would be 40,50,60 at all times.

How do you stand if you go out fully loaded and towing a full trailer,but come back empty with no trailer?
