A 7.5t vehicle, towing or not, is supposed to be speed limited to 56mph. It should also have a sticker in the window telling the driver that this is the case. It's part of the MOT. Your 6,8,12 week check should pick this up if the assigned service engineer is any good. All part of the O licence regs.

Any vehicle towing is limited to a max of 50 on single carriageway and 60 on dual and motorway. Also, a towing vehicle is not allowed in the outside lane of the motorway.

A bit like the origional poster.

We had a guy done, and yes 3 points convicted done, for doing 60 in a Transit.

By a camera van.

Sorry Sir but you were restricted to 50.

Both the other Supervisor and myself were spitting blood, until we thought to check "der computer"

Well Doh!

I presume a combination of (perhaps GPS to establish location), linked to the correct limit for that location, or road type manually entered on each site by the operator, and combined with ANPR (to establish veh weight) would be easily configured..

Not sure about Ranger Pick-up type vehicles.

BUT for absolute sure CDV (car derived vans) are treated as vans and not cars.

Though the plated weight does come into it.

So the two payload varients of the older Peugeot Partner, one was "in scope" the other, lighter by 200kg, got treated like a car.

I had to do a driving test for the nhs, the other week. I was driving a transit type box van. When i was doing a steady 60 on a single carrage nat speed limit road, i thought i was doing well until the examiner told me that the limit for transit type vans was 50 on a single carrage rd. The examiner was ex police as well.
