I bought a 56 plate Ranger Thunder...

Then found out that the first of the newer shape ones (late2006-07) have very soft drive trains...

I have fix gearbox, replaced clutch, flywheel and a host of other smaller niggles... rangers are good just beware of anything late 2006-2007..

I've spent around £5000 just keeping mine in the road...ouch.

Good luck...

The reason Landrover tends to be better off road is long suspension travel they can reach down on un even ground. Also They tend to get fitted with mud terrain tyres which I dont fit to a nice jap 4x4 as it would ruin the nice road manners. Not a problem on a defender it has not got any. I run discovery, hilux and Amazon 3 different vehicles 3 different jobs.
