I was told tumble drying them ruins the layers of protection, true or myth?

Chuck them through the wash the spin cycle gets the majority of the water out and will smell better, chuck them in front of the radiator/fire i have put mine through the tumbler dryer with no problems

Combo of two things, you need a 2nd pair. If the weather is really bad you can change through the day. And as said, a quick wash and spin before drying. Over the back of a chair in front of fire or over rad. Turn them every hour or so.

I don't want to state the obvious, but, see if you can get the money together to get a pair of decent (i.e. goretex/sympatex) over trousers. You'll build up a bit of damp but at least you won't get drenched.

Chin up

PS 2nd pair a must
