Ford Ranger Problem

Well, my great 2007 Ford Ranger that has been super reliable for over 2 years has started misbehaving. A few weeks ago I was parked on a very steep road and when I got back in the truck it would not start. You would have thought it was out of fuel and then after turning it over for ten times it started.

 

The following week it did the same, again I had been driving, pulled up and 15 minutes later went to start it and it was turning over fine but would not start. Eventually, it did.

 

This morning I started it from cold, it was ticking over and then after a few seconds cut out and performed as above. So this time the engine was called.

 

I have done some research on t'internet and discovered it could be the engine coolant temperature sensor. Anybody any ideas and where is the sensor located?

Don't know about that but I have had similarish issues with my 09 ranger, and it turned out to be the fuel filter water sensor, changed the filter and it was fine, although the filter taken off had only a tiny ammount of water in it and certainly not enough that should have normally caused a problem.

Probably totally not applicable, our case tractor got it wouldn't start without being primed every time. All it was is an injector leak back pipe had perished. the fuel must of all run back to the tank!

 

I dont know this engine but I had an escort van with a failed stop solenoid in the fuel injection pump once. If you can find it and put a finger on it or a solid probe of some sort then get someone to turn ignition on but not start it, if it works you should feel a positive flick/click as the shut of plunger energises open.

Sounds like an air leak in the fuel system , this causes the fuel to bleed back to the tank , could be caused by a bad seal at the filter or a corroded fuel pipe or maybe a loose rubber to metal hose joint . Sometimes the fastest answer is to run a new hard plastic feed line from front to rear .
