Its the same as ringing cars....theres pro's out there, How many stories have we heard about hinges being cut of containers etc, most are pro's so it just another hurdle they will get over.

But I agree it needs to be made harder for the easy selling of stolen gear

This ^^^. Thieving is what some people do for a living! Like I sort out pumps, and you sort trees. As for making it harder for selling stolen gear.......well, it's not going to happen!

Why not Eggs?

Why can't we make it happen?

I'm sick of this shite man, blokes are spending more time locking up their gear than cutting!

Thats the bit that annoys me Mark, locking unlocking checking your gear making sure you can see it from where your working......I'm well p'ed off with it. 3 crusied past today on a job:thumbdown:

We all have to lock our gear up (its a fact of life) And it's a pain in the arse unlocking it in the morning. But some of the thieves do it for a living.

Your a man of the world Mark!........you must have seen different things being sold in pubs.

Chipper manufactures could stamp the Serial number into a part like the frame or Oil tank where its difficult to cut and weld a new part into.If the serial number was in the approximate place on all machines it might be easier to id and harder for crims to cut and shut them?

IF there was "stolen chippers.co.uk" where you could post up the serial number of your lost machine that might help too.

There's a lot of chipper theft at the minute.

If anyone is selling a chipper, on here, free ads, eBay, wherever, would it not be a good idea to list the serial no. as part of the ad?

If everyone did this, after a while you could spot a hooky chipper a mile off.

Anyone who had one nicked could keep an eye open for their SN, and so could the police (and the AT members).

I can't see any negatives to this idea, can anyone else?

No serial number, no sale, simple.

And no, they don't all end up in Africa!

So maybe something along the lines of an equipment register?

A place where you can check serial numbers of kit against a stolen database?
