Today I (and virtually all at GreenMech) went to a friends funeral. Pete Brookes was arguable the best welder, fabricator that GreenMech employed - indeed Tony Turner commented that in his 50 years as a manufacturer he could not think of better guy. Pete was really talented, always happy and gifted in many ways, the type of bloke who would lend a hand before being asked, knew steel inside out, always looked at what he was doing to see if it could be improved. He died aged 57 after a battle against a brain tumour - he worked upto the last moment possible, whilst knowing that his time was limited. We all miss him.

His pall bearers included his son, best mates and a member of GreenMech staff. As his coffin was put on a trestle at the graveside, the pall bearers were asked to sign a disclaimer (rested on the coffin lid) saying that they would not sue if they injured themselves whilst lowering Pete into his grave.

How absolutely abominal is that. Surely this arrangement could have been handled with a bit more sympathy and forethought.

R.I.P Pete Anthony Brooks.

I'm sorry for your loss mate. Sounds like a top chap.

That is absolutley disgusting though. Why could they not have done it in private? All that is doing is making an awful situation worse. I know that everything is H+S up to the eyeballs but some things can be done behind closed doors.

That is a horrendous thing to have happen at a funeral of all occasions. As if the personal loss wasn't enough... It's the kind of stunt you'd expect to see in a black comedy, not in reality. I hope someone was offered a few words of advice to stop it happening again.

Sorry to hear that, I've had two greenmechs so maybe he had a hand in one of them, I sometimes think about the people who make the things we use every day.

As for the H&S nothing surprises me in this country anymore.

RIP.

Very sorry for your loss Pete, sounds like a top bloke, the sort no longer seem to be coming up though the ranks!!

As for the H&E crap I blame the scum who see an opportunity to cash in when any thing go wrong

I know of a nurse who gave CPR to a heart attack victim in Asda, she broke some ribs, but saved their life, they sued!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is utterly inexcusable. Frankly I think that lacking forethought to that degree could be considered negligent...

My deepest sympathy for your friend.

I echo all that has been said by previous posters. I have disabled my signature for this particular post as it is not appropriate to this kind of post.

Deepest sympathy.

'to sign a disclaimer (rested on the coffin lid)'

Britain has come a long way in the last 30 years, shame all of it has been downhill.
