Charging for delivery

I have had a customer call up who I have taken logs to in the past, they have now moved and its a 56 mile round trip. Just wondering how much to Charge for delivery? It's a double load 2 cube. It's up and down hills so not just a cruise and I'm int landy TD5 so will use about 2 gallon plus wear and tear. Any ideas peeps??

Time plus fuel for miles outside usual free delivery area. I was just looking at towing cost for our Landy and came to 35p per mile for fuel.

Well if you charge .25p a mile youd only get your fuel back !

Charge .40p a mile and youd have £10in your pocket.

All depends how much the fuel is and how much your time is. ?

How much further is it compared to their old address ? Is only fare to charge for the extra miles in my opinion.

I'd say they've moved out your area to make it cost effective for either of you.

When we did logs we used to go 7 miles ea way free. Then it was £1 a mile there and back. So in your case extra £40. Its going to add an hour to the delivery in that time you could have processed another 2 cu metres

I would charge £25.00 for that. They either want them or not. I always sell out before Christmas so no need to travel around unnecessarily.

We charge pound a mile outside the normal delivery area and that only just covers the cost

I allow an amount in price of logs to cover delivery up to 20 miles, after that it is an extra £5 per 1.5 metres, up to 30 miles absolute max. I know a lot of you have a smaller free delivery area, but I am so far from civilisation that it does not work! Also I do not go over 20 miles for orders less than 3 metres , it is not cost effective because of the time involved. Last winter I gave people over 25 miles away the numbers of firewood suppliers nearer to them if they were stuck, and hoped and prayed they got some dry logs... Saying all that, I sometimes make an exception if I get big orders in summer when things are quiet, say 4-6 loads for someone who lives way out by!
