Could aways make sure everyone has to sit a AT certificate. Make them sit a test (chargeable, of course). Then need a card (chargeable, of course) to display if requested. And then a yearly refresher (chargeable, of course). All guarrenteed and above board, which can be added to our ladened wallets bursting with various cards proving we're trained how to breathe etc.

Or, just have an open forum where everyone can pick the opinions they find useful and scratch the ones they dont. i.e. Its fine how it is:rolleyes:

Is this really a problem on here? For everything that is posted up showing something not being carried out to industry best practice there always seems to be somebody posting up a reply saying, "that looks a bit dodgy, why don't you do it this way?". I'm paraphrasing, obviously.

Well for one not being a tree person (I don't know the difference between an oak and a sycamore) I find all the threads and posts interesting. Yeah ok some may be wrong, but it soon gets rectified, and I think 99% of the time its always backed up with solid evidence.

I have been meaning to start a thread over what's the difference between single and double rope technique, but have felt I will sound very stupid in asking it. Maybe its the time to now.

The climbing side and felling side I'm not good at, however the repairs of any machines is always a good read and I think that the techs and non techs but have a go people make the maintenance side a very good read and I'm always learning about saws and there habits.

Overall its a top forum and always my first point of call on the net, the tab is always open on the iPad.

Remember whenever you try to idiot proof something someone builds a better idiot :laugh1: I know my limits and if its outside my expertise I don't comment/attempt it but have learnt alot from being on here :thumbup1:

I'm don't know for sure, but I reckon the difference usually is one rope:)

Criticism, good and bad, of the forum can only help to improve things on the forum. But we can only act on issues if we are told about them.

One strong criticism I heard at the show was the continuous misinformation on general safety issues involved in tree work, this point was raised by a well known and respected instructor. I'd like to remind all who use this forum, that Arbtalk is no replacement for correct training with approved instructors, it is merely a platform to discuss various topics. With the high rate of posting that such an active forum attracts, it is very hard for us to ensure the details of each and every post is 100% accurate, so don't take it as read that it is 100% accurate.

so a kiddies sthil chainsaw wont cut down real trees!!!! :001_tongue:

Well said imo andy and steve.
