Large urban tree failure

Looks like Birmingham was hit pretty hard by yesterdays winds.

 

We lost 5 sizeable trees ourselves in the middle of North London.

 

Thoughts with the injured party who was involved in the incident below, hope he pulls through ok.

this one has already surfaced on UKTC but I thought it worth sharing for those not following there or not from the South East.

 

Hearne Hill, South London

Fell mid day, apparently no discernible wind (or roots for that matter !)

 

No injuries and little damage considering the size of it.

Could pavement,pin curbs and compaction have caused this David?

 

All the above Paul, plus more.

 

Will be interesting to read the official investigation.

 

 

There must be hundreds of Planes like this in Urban areas.

 

 

Usually a robust tree species, Massaria, Anthracnose, Ceratocystis and general urban stress like compaction, root severance and drought will be a significant ongoing threat to London Planes vitality and stability over the coming years.
