The news said the tree had fallen earlier in the day and people were climbing over/under it to get past and a section of wall that must of been dislodged fell hitting a pedestrian.

Sad loss whatever the details though.

I was out and about in West London that day and there were branches down all over, particularly h.chesnuts dropping big limbs. I did think in the morning that some poor sod was going to get walloped. Terrible to hear of a fatality.

Looks like Birmingham was hit pretty hard by yesterdays winds.

 

We lost 5 sizeable trees ourselves in the middle of North London.

 

Thoughts with the injured party who was involved in the incident below, hope he pulls through ok.

this one has already surfaced on UKTC but I thought it worth sharing for those not following there or not from the South East.

Fell mid day, apparently no discernible wind (or roots for that matter !)

 

No injuries and little damage considering the size of it.

There must be hundreds of Planes like this in Urban areas.

 

 

Usually a robust tree species, Massaria, Anthracnose, Ceratocystis and general urban stress like compaction, root severance and drought will be a significant ongoing threat to London Planes vitality and stability over the coming years.
