Agrimog you are mistaken if you think assessors are not actively employed in timber cutting or arb work , assessing is by no means full time work and what do you think these people do when not , polishing their chainsaws.

Yorkshireman what a cracking idea , could be like food standards guys , checks made and if things need working on perhaps a revisit

how many of you drive, you passed a driving test and were issued with a driving licence, did you have to resit a test every time you changed your car, or resit every 5 year, what is the difference, a car could be much more dangerous than a saw and nobody seems to think you need to refresh every time manufacturer improves the breed. I use a saw, well several almost every day, and have done so for over 30 years, I stay current with new developments a techniques, (I've got to if I want to stay on top of my game), could one of you young educated folks please inform me what vast fountain of knowledge will I be able to drink from by doing a refresher course on "basic" chainsawing practices as I am curious and interested, and before anyone starts I am not against training, in fact before anyone picks up any piece of kit near me I insist they have been instructed in its proper use and maintenance

Depends what you already know, I can't comment on what you will learn, as I don't know what you know. And Tbf when doing a refresher, I was told the trainer watches you, then corrects any bad habits or teaches you new things based on what's lacking

Well on that theme of driving if you bring this into the remit of the HSE which is commercial drivers there is a requirement for CPD.

Its called driver CPC and I am sure there are driver forums full of people bemoaning that.

the cpc for commercial drivers was brought in at brussels remit to bring us into line with the rest of europes driving stds, another load of beurocratic bullshit. and as for trainers watching me, Ive seen more bad habits and innacuaricies from "trainers" than almost any other full time operator

Not really bothered about where it came from, the point is people moan, they don't like change and they don't like it when they perceive something foisted upon them.

Some moan more than others but by and large, moaning achieves nothing.

Its difficult to see what could be done in this case, the men dishing out the work have set a condition, comply or die.

Thanks

I run a arb business , quite a successfully one which I built from nothing & believe me I know the cost implications ,

SO I really sympathise with those striving [ as I do ] to make the sums more than add up so that we can continually advance the business.

Hse is about safety , if its good enough for HSE inspectors , who in their own admission arent ..Arb' specialists

then why not let the industry self support by engaging those people who do have genuine experience of how Arborists work and have also already undergone repeated technical evaluations and verifications which ensure assessors are assessing competence standards to the standards of a national framework which is already recognised by the HSE

Surely the bodys working ON RT2 or others could agree to specify such a technical team works system
