Mating Moles

There could be many reasons but most likely trauma from something either standing or driving over a tunnel close to the surface, or it could be that it's strayed into another moles terrortory and ended up sustaining injury, it takes very little to kill a mole

Hi Guys,

I've worked as a traditional molecatcher for a few years, loads of good info from Paul- he obviously knows his stuff :thumbup1:

From my own observations it seems that the only things that will hunt moles for prey are tawny owls and weasels. Cats , foxes, dogs, buzzards and the like will often catch and kill them but never seem to eat them. As Paul says, there's something about them that stops most animals from doing so, almost as if they have a bitter taste or a toxicity about them.

They are fascinating creatures and also very industrious - hence the mess they make, cheers, Jamie

Another thing moles are blessed with a kinaesthetic sense, which Is basically like when you wake up in the night for a pee you know exactly where your going without having to turn the light on, so this sense enables the mole to notice subtle change on its system this is why most people fail when trying to catch moles, also moles can swim very well and they don't mind water so if anyone is thinking of putting a hose down a hole to get rid of a mole all your actually doing is creating a better environment for there food source, don't waste your money on mole repellent or sonic mole repellers trust me they don't work!

Fascinating stuff mate thanks:thumbup:

With kinaesthetic sense though, this can be upset by the consumption of alcohol, making some people mistake the cupboard or dresser drawer for the toilet!

I imagine its pretty difficult to get a mole rat-arsed though
