When people are charging £60-£80 per tonne for cord delivered, then that felled tree at £102 is a bargain. I've been looking for cord in West Lancs and been let down twice. Had a couple of others prove too expensive.

I looked at 3 mature oaks to take down today, nearly all rigged. The bloke just kept banging on about how much all the cord was worth.

 

I did put a keen price in because he does have a point.

I do the same, but there is several tonnes of oak, and my yard is just up the road.

 

The thing is, people think raw timber is worth as much as seasoned, cut, split and delivered logs.

With a decent sized Oak of high quality, the main stem can be worth several thousand pounds, not including the firewood.

 

That said, I can't see a situation where a softwood fell in a domestic situation would pay for itself from timber sales.

Somebody go and fell it on his house and then tell him he can keep the logs. The public think their trees are worth a fortune when they come to buy quality seasoned logs they want them for pennies. The really arrogant ones buy a cheap saw go red in the face and give up after an hour.
