Just adding a spin to the dyneema strop bit ... What if the zig zag bit was to fail a rivit pops perhaps...

 

As mention previously if there's a possible recall who is to say that other parts may fail.

 

If there is a forging problem is down to the paperwork not the forge or machine making it its down to the variables programmed into the manufacture.. Better to be safe and wait for R and D to be finalised ...

Do you worry that the wheels are going to fall off your truck or brakes fail at the next junction?

If my truck was only a few weeks old and the wheels fell off an identical truck I would be worried, yes.

 

I don't have a zz but if I did I wouldn't be using it until the facts were known or a backup was in place. I'm enjoying my life and would like to continue to do so.

I wouldn't want to be the second climber to have a zz fail, from what could be 20m.

 

Its your call though.

I use a Yosemite bowline when climbing up into tree so that I can do quick changes then tie fishermans when on main and final anchor. It's fine if its tied one way. Never had it catch at all. If you tie it 180 degrees round it does get in the way a bit.

 

Cheers for heads up though. I do know what you mean but I've tried it over and over and it seems fine. When I first got ZZ I read that about the knot being close to the ZZ bits and thought about a krab to krab using the little sewn loop but I don't think it needs it after trying with fishermans.

Its so easy to reduntantly safety it, as per T14EES T14UNK post, why would people NOT do this.

On that note, why wouldnt Petzl simply release it with the redundant back up. A simple lil quicklink could save your life, I know the choice I would make.

I like redunancy in my system wherever I can work it in.

I agree the internet and Facebook have so much crap on its hard to know whats real and what isn't,this whole thing could be made up.I'm still going to be climbing on mine,will keep and eye on it but way to much scare mongering etc.. on the net!
