First apologies for the silly questions...new to milling.

How thick are those slabs?

Can you say why the word carvers would ant them so thick?

Cheers Bob

The slabs are 2", 4", 5" and 6" thick

It's a bit difficult to carve a statue from 2" thick stock hence the 5" & 6"

When I served my apprenticeship my boss was a wood sculpture and carved a collection of ballerina statues out of blocks 6" thick 15" wide and 24" high for each one.

Cheers.

I wouldn't be able to move anything that thick so I'm keeping everything sub 3"

Bob

I'll be moving them in a couple of weeks time at which point I'll cut them into 3' & 4' lengths and take an unsuspecting friend with me to help carry.

The job didn't go without a slight cock up, these were found just before the client announced a tennis net used to be attached to the tree!

Ouch did the same on some Oak the other day. Have you milled Plum before just got some windblown in nothing to big but looks lovely and pinky purple heartwood. Be milling it in a few months.

A real pain for splitting...... I have tried all ways to stop it but invariably it seems to crack.

Got given some Plum a couple of months back that was destined for the fire so milled it up with the 550 fitted with the low pro bar and chain filed to 10 deg. Worked a treat as max dia was about 11''.

DON'T KNOW WHY PICS ARE UPSIDE DOWN
