How many books do you have?

Been doing the books this morning, just woundering how many "books" everyone has.

 

I have three folders, income, outgoing/expenses, and one folder for invoices.

 

Easiest way I have of doing it, am I missing more or is this enough.

all mines on quickbooks. I just print all my invoices and sales receipts out at the end of the year, along with a ledger sheet print off, bank statements, they all go in 1 clip file, and a seperate 12 section folder holding all the receipts for the year.

 

Ughhh..you just reminded me, I have to print all that out soon....trip to staples for more printer ink and paper I fear!

I find 'Quickbooks' very good, and would recommend anyone, however small a business, to use it. Its easy to adapt to your business, easy to use, and keeps track of everything. If you update all your purchases and sales regularly (it does not take long) you will always know exactly where your accounts stand.

 

Quickbooks is realtively cheap and the 'jargon' is more Joe Public speak, than 'accountant speak'. Best to start now rather than later.

 

We present our records to the accountant on a memory stick. No need to print anything off. We then keep all purchase invoices in folders as even though they are on the disc the accountant likes to see the hard copies.

None, I use invoice to go, fully digital, all you is keep any receipts in a safe place

 

It all backs up to the cloud.

The title of the thread reminded me of my previous life as a mortgage advisor. Typically when interviewing taxi drivers or takeaway owners, when I asked to see their accounts, they would ask which ones? The real ones or the Inalnd Revenue ones!!!

I have recently bought this accounting spreasdheet: Accounts Spreadsheet - the EASY Range

 

I am getting on pretty well with it so far and it seems to do all I need for £30 per year.

QB is good, but really pricey for what it is.

 

I use EasyBooks, but its Mac only.

What's wrong with an Excel spreadsheet? I can customise it to do exactly what I want, print invoices direct from it, etc. And it's free.
