Silky Katanaboy. Mental as it looks?

was browsing the web for a nice new, and larger silky, as i like to avoid aeriel chainsaw work where possible, when i came across the KATANABOY, a 50cm blade folding saw. I was just wondering if anyone owned or ever used one? is it as mental as it looks? is it any use up the tree or is it too big to climb with effectively? Any advice would be appreciated on this, because at approx £140 the last thing i want to do is buy something not fit for purpose.

while were on the subject is there anywhere that sharpens them? or is it just a case of buying a new blade when its goosed?
Silky do a feather edge file for sharpening some of their saws:

Siilky feathered edge file for sharpening Silky saw blades

I don't see the Gomtaro listed there though.

I've used one on my Sugoi, and it certainly extended the life of the saw, but I never really got it quite as sharp as it was when new.

I eventually broke down and bought a new blade, but I'll be using the file on that too when the time comes.

I can defiantly recommend the sugio as for the sharpening kit it's a complete waste of money, these saws are machined for performance and doing them by hand is time consuming and not really any better than it would be when blunt.

Just buy a new blade for it :001_smile:

I use a Zubat 330mm I use this more than any other saw, chainsaw included, all our reduction work is done with a silky Zubat, a sugoi is good just the Zubat is a better all rounder for fine and larger stuff, I'll bin the blade every 3 months or so.
