  1. Freelance available for work in the North West. St Helens based. Own tools, ropes, PPE and transport. 07970 470 357 Cheers - Mike
  2. bloody fairys, if you ever get scared again, just give me a call
  3. cheers rob, was looking at that one too and is half the price. i have a straight blade gomtaro at the moment but its seen better days. while were on the subject is there anywhere that sharpens them? or is it just a case of buying a new blade when its goosed?
  4. was browsing the web for a nice new, and larger silky, as i like to avoid aeriel chainsaw work where possible, when i came across the KATANABOY, a 50cm blade folding saw. I was just wondering if anyone owned or ever used one? is it as mental as it looks? is it any use up the tree or is it too big to climb with effectively? Any advice would be appreciated on this, because at approx £140 the last thing i want to do is buy something not fit for purpose.
  5. i doubt i have the experience for a supervisory role, but would be very interested in being part of the gang, depending on the finer details of course. i have cs 30/31 38 39. driving license but '98 im afraid.
  6. Reading if anywhere. went last year and it was excellent. got better chance of good weather and theres loads of veriety. atmosphere and people were awesome.
  7. ive just seen a job on the arbtalk page on facebook near your way, might be worth a look. think it might be a shop though?
  8. it can be tricky because a lot of the time the source of the waters entry is not where the signs of damp settle, but if you can locate the point of the leak, then any sealant, silicone stuff will do the job, looks messy but will keep the water out. a while ago someone i know bought one of those coleman canopy, gazebo type things and permanently erected it over his van, he swears by it, reckons the van doesnt even get rained on let alone leak, apart from in heavy winds, when he has to chase it round the park in his y-fronts. i think they are about 120 quid. If you dont mind me asking, where do you live full time in a caravan? ive been looking into this, but site fees are like a mortgage and i'm not sure where to start looking elsewhere, so any tips on that front would be appreciated. thanks mate.
  9. does anyone have any land available for me to store my caravan for a small fee, or in exchange for a bit of labour? ideally as near to st.helens as possible. need to get the bugger off the drive. thanks folks.
  10. <p>hello rick, my name is Mike, i live near haydock so im only a quick drive up motorway. I have 30, 31, 38, 39, a couple of saws, climbing gear, and own ppe. very interested in this position. 12. hi milly this job might be just what i need, would just like a chat to discuss some finer details. I have 30,31,32,38,39, ropes, saws and PPE. i love working outside no matter what the weather and fancy a change of scene. Do you have a phone number I can reach you on, or an email address, i find arbtalk a bit clunky for conversation. thanks milly, hope to hear from you soon. Mike

  13. just a few questions joe. where, when, for how long, hours, and of course, how much £. thanks.
  14. me and my partner in climb are coppering up to pay for either PTS or UA1/2 tickets. Cant afford both so its one or the other for now. Was wondering which would be more beneficial in terms of guaranteeing work, and if anyone had any pointers / direction to go in for work once weve obtained them. cheers fellas.
  15. Hi Mike, I am very interested in this opportunity, however I do not have pre 97 licence or hgv. Is this a definate requirement, or is it still worth me applying for the job? cheers.
  16. thats what i'm thinking mate, its not like theyve grown 20foot overnight!
  17. cheers folks, some good food for thought here and a lot i hadnt actually considered. the point about the trees being there before the sky dish is a curious one, ive lived here for 5 years and the trees have always been there, and seem to have been at full height for most of that time, but all of a sudden they are a problem? seems dubious to me, surely they would have affected the signal long before now? the other thing is, before she knocked on, she didnt know i would be capable of doing the work myself, but made no reference to chucking in to help out with costs. did she expect that i would fork out a £1000 ish so she can watch tv? as it happens i can do it, but not alone, so im still gonna have to pay a groundie and costs and blah blah blah.
  18. ha ha, no i dont live in a mansion, quite the opposite, im just reluctant to touch them because access is such a ball-ache. it seems harsh that i have to put the hours in, or put my hand in my pocket for something which seems trivial to me. i did suggest that she got cable but she thought i was joking. looks like ive got my hands full for the next few weekends. oh well:thumbdown:
  19. i have three 60 foot conifers in my back garden which i quite like because they provide privacy. ealier today my next door but one neighbour knocked on saying her sky tv wasnt working and the engineer had told her it was because of the conifers. She now wants me to take them down, which is a lot of work or a lot of cost if i had someone else do it. has anyone had similar problems and are there any other options?, is it solely my responsibility? i dont want to fall out with her, otherwise i'd just refuse. cheers folks!
  20. the green one looks swank, but theres no price, this one was 80 delivered, as long as it lasts a month i'll be happy. i'll let you all know how it is when it arrives and its done a bit of graft,
  21. ordered one of these off ebay the other day - 80quid brand new free delivery. i fully expect it to be crap, cos generally you get what you pay for with saws, but i thought for that money its worth the gamble, it'll at least pay for itself and sometimes cheap tat goes forever. anyone ever owned one? what are they like?
  22. yale xtc blaze. bought 37 metre with the spliced eye, then cut it off about 18 inches for a blakes hitch. good stuff, never had any probs.
  23. yes it would be good to come down for a climb and a natter, i have a lot of questions haha. To be honest those day rates were a stab in the dark really based on what people seemed to be saying going rates were, i had to go off something being new to this whole subbying myself out thing. However the money is not really an issue as, like yourself i enjoy this works and as long as i can keep up with the bills im happy, so 80 - 100 a day would be fine, as long as i can get enough days in. I'm not after a cushy living, just need to get out of the full time job i'm in at the moment its regular money but not what i want to do. Thats why im being cautious and trying to find out as much as i can before i take the leap, probably being a bit soft really!

I will definately come one day for a climb/talk though, just let me know when you have something in mind and i'll see if i can make it.

Thanks Rob, I appreciate you taking the time to help me out. Cheers
