How much difference did bob actually make to Africa long term? Not as much difference as he did for himself for sure.... That's not a dig against bob, I think he's a shining example of human strength and decency, not so much for live aid, more for how he has taken on and brought up another's child as his own. Top bloke.

I just believe there are more effective and less narcissistic ways of 'doing charity' that mass televised back slapping....

Course he made a difference! He made sure everyone new the plight that was going on in Africa as most people turned their back on the problem and hoped it would go away.

Less narcissistic maybe, more effective doubtful. Celebrity for celebrity's sake is a sign of the times so it is nice to see something good come out of it for a change.

Yes but us knowing what happens to sick children in Africa hasn't stopped there being sick children in Africa.

That can only be achieved by domestic political will, and so long as ineffective regimes take foreign money to feather their nests whilst letting their populations be supported by the pittance we raise at events like rnd, that political will won't come.

We can only scratch the surface, we're not addressing the problems with things like this....

At no point have I criticised anyone. Check back.... :001_tt2:

If the below is not a "criticism" of all the celebrities involved in CR, I don't know what is!!

If these 'celebrities' really cared about helping others they'd pitch in with voluntary projects regularly, not just when it gets them on telly.

I'd be very interested to see the real figures behind comic relief. I don't believe tv companies etc do things for nothing these days, certainly not things as expensive as comic relief....
