My new power plane came thru today, so went out and bought me a new dewalt grinder as well:001_smile:

after a steep initial learning curve, manged to brave a burr from my tree that i milled and which can also be seen on the alaskan milling forum. the only prob with this burr was the hole in the middle

need some suggestions on what type of sanding didks i need for my new 4" machine please. ive seen some flexi type ones on u tube but not for sale.

now it is ruffed out, i will boil it at the weekend in an old oil drum and a roofin torch for cumbustion:thumbup1:

Nicely done - I got one of these and it's another great tool to have in the armory.... much better in wet wood as it struggles a bit in dry wood but also amazing for taking bark of yew...

I'm going to look through other threads as I'm sure you answered this but what's the reason for boiling it?

Ref sanding - I've done a huge amount of the years with different tools - best thing I have found is the dewalt DWP849X - around £100-00, reliable, used with cheap velcro 4.5" and 7" sanding pads and discs. And the most useful thing - it has a variable speed control.

Finally I'm not sure what variable grinder you have there but it looks like the variable speed DT8-117 dewalt one...?

I bought x2 of these - they got hot when in use - both had to go back in the first year to have a module (can't remember exact name of it) replaced.... they worked for another 3 months and now one of them has packed in again...

But they are handy for the variable speed control and they are lighter than the larger dewalt one... but can't seem to cope with long periods of hard use like the larger one.

Rob,

no. no variable speed just 10K or noubt!

do you have a link for those pads. dont really know what i am looking for as such?

the other question i was going to ask you was what you use for removeing the ruff edges on oak boards, or the above mentioned tools?
