this is "Josephine hedger" world champ and many times uk champ too. rope after two days use. as i said there is a issue here,

 

I would imagine Jo has given it a lot more stick in two days than many of us would in two months

 

But it does look like sharp edge damage where there is a burr on one of the metal edges

That does not look kind on the rope.

 

Has anyone had issues with ropes other than Imoi & tachion?

 

Offsider is using Arrowfrog. We thought the damage was caused by the pantin but might have a closer look on Monday.

Tempted by one of these but totally put off by the wear factor! how can smooth metal cause more erosion than rope?

I'm not having any issues with my PI. I'm curious to see if it's all ropes or construction dependant.

The two ropes in those photos are quite different. Imori being pretty soft and Tachyon being fairly hard in comparison. Cant comment on construction as im not that much of a rope geek but judging from the differnt posts on here it seems there is a few ZZ with a sharp edge somewhere. Ive run tachyon through a SJ for 5 months so far with zero abrasion.

Also is everyone with a ZZ using some kind of friction saver??? I knackered a rope by coming out of a tree too fast without one when i first got my SJ.

Could it be when the rope is not running threw the pulley correctly and running over the zz body,like when your lines deflected. Causing the wear?

Interesting point Joe...as far as Imori rope is concerned and i have climbed on this rope,it isn't a smooth rope...it has raised nodules incorporated into it which would rub against the unit:mad:...imo

Yeah but tachyon is fairly smooth and that has been getting damaged too.

tachyon is smooth? It feels quite soft in my hand, but not smooth in comparison to say PI or blaze
