Any kayaker out there

Looking to get into it myself when i get back to scotland,Just wondering where a good place to start and learn is?

 

Also what kinda money does a kayak and all the bits cost roughly?

I dabble a bit. We've got a couple of sit on tops, but I've booked a week at Plas Y Brenin in the summer for the kids and me to do some proper paddling.

Ive paddled the river that runs past plas y brenin a good day out that is

used to teach and paddled a lot all over this country and abroad.

done lots of big water and drops and swims haha.

sadly arthritis and age and too many dislocations have stopped me.

Just sold my last boat and that was a sad day.

My mate runs a centre in Llangollen and will still have a dabble when we pop down.

I used to do flat water racing in a k1, went abroad for Great Britain until I damaged my wrist

Used to do a lot of polo up to about 10 years ago; done the DW a few times, Liffey descent, Exe descent etc... More recently a lot of sea kayaking, as we lived on an island in the Gironde estuary.

Haven't kayaked much for a couple of years now, getting a little creaky but that's perhaps just me looking for a poor excuse.

Rest of the family have a preference for open canoe, and I do now as well. It feels a little more sociable. I really used to enjoy watching my kids settling into the bottom of the boat when they got tired and going to sleep while I kept paddling:thumbup:

Took up surf kayaking last year but bit of a treck to find good surf so looking to do more standard kayaking this year. This photo was down in Westward Ho. Hard work but great fun.

The waves were much bigger than they look, honest!

Got a fish sit on top, great way to fish.

Put a 2 horse outboard on it last summer so it probably doesn't count as a kayak any more!
